India is on track to achieve a record foodgrain output in 2025, with the farm sector targeting a robust 4 per cent growth, according to government projections. The anticipated milestone underscores the resilience and productivity of India's agriculture sector despite climate challenges and global economic uncertainties.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has credited the growth trajectory to several factors, including enhanced investment in rural infrastructure, adoption of advanced agricultural technologies, and effective implementation of government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and PM-KISAN.
Preliminary data suggests bumper yields in key crops like rice, wheat, and pulses, bolstered by favorable monsoon conditions and increased acreage. The push for self-reliance in agriculture has also led to higher adoption of hybrid seeds, improved irrigation techniques, and precision farming practices.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar lauded the farming community for their efforts and highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring food security while boosting farmers' income. ″India's agriculture sector is not just meeting domestic needs but is also emerging as a major player in global food markets,″ he stated.
Experts, however, caution against complacency, pointing out the need to address challenges like post-harvest losses, supply chain inefficiencies, and climate change impacts. Policymakers are also emphasizing sustainable practices to maintain soil health and water resources.
As India marches towards achieving its food security goals, the record output for 2025 is poised to strengthen its position as a global agricultural powerhouse.
