Myanmar - The 44th meeting of the Pesticide Registration Board held in Nay Pyi Taw

The 44th meeting of the Pesticide Registration Board was held at the meeting hall of the Union Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigationin Nay Pyi Taw and was attended by the Chairman of the Pesticide Registration Board, Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut, board members, heads of the Pesticide Technical Committee, and invited guests.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Board, Deputy Minister discussed that as an agricultural country, it is vital for Myanmar to ensure the quality of pesticides used in pest control to improve agricultural productivity. He emphasized the importance of preventing environmental damage and ensuring consumer safety. The board is responsible for monitoring and enforcing pesticide regulations, taking necessary actions against non-compliance and violations. The aim is to reduce and eventually eliminate offenders by strictly implementing the provisions of the Pesticide Law and its procedures.He also highlighted the need to strive for sustainable agricultural practices based on fair systems with the long-term goal of reducing the use of pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides.

Following that, the Secretary of the Board reported applications of 146 new pesticide products to discuss during the 44th meeting of the board and the attendees from relevant sectors actively discussed and deliberated on the matter.

It was also reported that a total of 4,287 pesticide products had been approved for registration till the end of the 43rd meeting.
