China’s total grain output in 2024 crossed 706.5 million tons, a 1.6% rise over last year

A few days ago, the National Bureau of Statistics of China released data on grain production in 2024. 

According to a survey of 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across the country, the national grain sown area, per unit output, and total output in 2024 are as follows:

1. The national grain sown area is 119,319,000 hectares, an increase of 351,000 hectares over 2023, with a growth rate of 0.3%. Among the grain sown area, the sown area of cereal grain (mainly rice, wheat, corn, and millet, sorghum, barley, oat, and buckwheat) is 100,458,000 hectares, an increase of 532,000 hectares over 2023, with a growth rate of 0.5%.

   
   

2. The national per unit grain output is 5,921 kg/hectare, an increase of 75.8 kg/hectare over 2023, with a growth rate of 1.3%. Among the per unit grain output, the per unit output of cereal grain is 6,493 kg/hectare, an increase of 74.1 kg/hectare over 2023, with a growth rate of 1.2%. 

   
   

3. The nation’s total grain output is 706.5 million tons, an increase of 11.09 million tons over 2023, with a growth rate of 1.6%. Among the total grain output, the output of cereal grain is 652.29 million tons, an increase of 10.86 million tons over 2023, with a growth rate of 1.7%.
