Brazilian biological technologies company Biotrop announced another important step in its international expansion project with the installation of an advanced product research and development center at UF Innovate, the University of Florida's innovation hub, in Gainesville, Florida, United States.

Jonas Hipólito, Biotrop's Research Director, emphasizes that this investment aims to accelerate the company's expansion process in the United States and prioritizes closer service to North American customers, in addition to collaboration on new research lines such as combating greening (HLB), a serious disease that plagues global citrus production.

"The reality of US agriculture is different from Brazil's and, therefore, requires different approaches. We inaugurated a center with laboratory, office, greenhouse, and complete infrastructure at the University of Florida precisely to be closer to customers, working with a focus on North American agriculture needs," explains Hipólito.

UF Innovate is an umbrella organization that unites four entities driving the innovation ecosystem at the University of Florida. It connects innovators with entrepreneurs, investors, and industry, incubates startups and growing companies, and promotes a resilient economy in an "effort to make the world a better place."

This concept, says Biotrop, is "perfectly aligned" with the pillars of the Brazilian company itself, which describes itself as "specialized in biological and natural products that rank among the segment leaders in Brazil."

Biotrop's internationalization process began in 2019, with operations starting in Argentina, Paraguay, and Bolivia. The following year, the company reached Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, and Peru. The next step was establishing representation in the United States and Portugal, subsequently moving to Mexico, Spain, France, and Italy.

"Biotrop brings to farmers the most advanced solutions that contribute to crop success, combining the concepts of sustainability and regenerative agriculture. To fulfill its mission, Biotrop has advanced industrial microorganism multiplication units, makes massive investments in innovation, research, development, and registrations, and relies on strategic alliances to access and develop the best biological technologies," concludes the Brazilian company.
