Brazil accounts for 1/4 of growth in BRL6 billion global bioinput market

With a market valued at BRL6 billion, Brazil represents approximately one-quarter of the global biological input market growth. 

This figure was released at the 1st Inoculants Workshop, organized by ANPII Bio (National Association for Promotion and Innovation of the Biological Industry).

Currently, Brazil is a leader in the use of biologicals in global agriculture, having one of the world's most advanced legislations for this category. A significant portion of producers use biologicals in their crops, and the country is one of the few to have a biological use platform for extensive crops such as soybeans, corn, and sugarcane.

The bioinput market in Brazil consists of approximately 80% biopesticides and 20% bioinoculants. The segment is projected to grow annually by 16.6% in treated areas until the 2027/28 season, representing the highest growth within the agricultural input sector. According to data presented at the Workshop, this means an expansion that is three to four times faster than in Europe and the United States.

Solon Cordeiro de Araújo, a founding board member of ANPII Bio, gave an overview of the evolution of biological products dating back to the 1960s when the first applications and studies with biological inoculants began in the country.

"The evolution of inoculant use is remarkable. We have gone from 35% usage in soybean cultivation in the 1980s to 85% currently. We have also progressed from a single type of inoculant to various classes and forms of use. There has been significant advancement in terms of regulation, oversight, and technical training, with companies now having highly qualified teams," Solon explained.

The event emphasized how studies of viruses, insects, bacteria, and fungi are shaping new alternatives for plant protection and growth, with the central theme being the "biological revolution." 

During the conference, ANPII Bio welcomed various interested parties, biological companies, and associates to its lounge. Through its participation, the entity, which is Brazil's first biological association, reinforced its role in promoting and innovating the industry for this product category.

"We intend to continue leading and supporting the development of biological solutions that benefit not only agricultural productivity but also promote sustainability. Events like this are fundamental for sharing knowledge, promoting debate, and strengthening partnerships that drive the sector forward," Solon Araújo said.

Júlia Emanuela de Souza, Director of Institutional Relations at ANPII Bio, stated that representatives from various companies, from senior leadership to specialists in data, regulation, and research and development, actively engaged with the speakers.

"Discussions covered biological market figures, expectations, and perspectives. Technical topics were also addressed, such as understanding the interaction between microorganisms in the soil and plant rhizosphere, as it can be positive but also competitive, so this integrated view is fundamental. Additionally, the workshop discussed generations of microorganisms, balancing currently available technologies with future developments that will soon be available to rural producers. The sector is showing increasingly innovative characteristics," she said in conclusion.
