China - Second genetically engineered corn and soybean variety registration list finalized

United StatesOn October 8, 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) published Announcement No. 830 (link in Chinese), announcing the final approval of 30 GE corn and soy varieties, including 27 GE corn varieties and three GE soybean varieties. The 30 GE varieties passed the preliminary review by the China National Crop Variety Registration Committee (CNCVRC) and were published for public comment on March 19, 2024. This is the second GE corn and soybean varieties registration list. The first list, with 51 registered GE corn and soybean varieties, was published on December 7, 2023.
Listed GM corn and soybean varieties will be eligible for planting in approved areas. However, for the foreseeable future, the varieties are likely to only be planted in PRC approved pilot programs for GM corn and soy.
