The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) provided an update on the impact of the recent hurricanes on North American phosphate operations.
Back-to-back historic storms crossed Mosaic's operational areas. Mosaic's sites withstood the conditions with few challenges. Mosaic's Riverview site, which has operated on Tampa Bay for the last century, received nearly 15 inches of rain during Hurricane Milton less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene.
A water collection system supporting the closed gypstack became overwhelmed, pushing excess water out a manhole on Mosaic's property. At this time, Mosaic believes some of that impacted stormwater made its way to an outfall which discharges into Tampa Bay. The issue was addressed yesterday and is not continuing. The volume may have been greater than the 17,500 gallon reporting standard. Mosaic expects water quality impacts, if any, to be modest.
Last week Mosaic proactively idled all Florida operations ahead of Hurricane Milton to mitigate potential impacts. Based on early assessments, limited damage was sustained across the facilities and to products in warehouses. Power has been restored to all facilities, and ports in the region have re-opened. The facilities are expected to return to full production capacity over the coming days as site remediation and cleanup are completed.
Mosaic previously announced a production disruption at its Riverview facility due to Hurricane Helene.
