End of season assessments of potato crops at the industry's leading independent Eurofins potato blight trials site have demonstrated the benefit of maximising the use of CAA chemistry for blight control - and in particular the strength of mandipropamid, in REVUS and associated co-formulations including new EVAGIO Forte.
Reviewing the trials, Syngenta Technical Manager, Andy Cunningham reported that where mandipropamid had not been used in the programme the damaging effects of blight outbreaks were clearly evident.
"The blight damage is sapping the green leaf area that will impact on yield, along with posing serious implications for tuber blight infection at harvest," he said.
Where mandipropamid had been used just twice in the programme it had significantly improved the level of blight control.
Furthermore, in the trial protocol plots where mandipromaid was used up to the maximum of six times in the programme - following the recommended principles of mixing active ingredients and alternating modes of action - the crop had remained exceptionally clean.
"This shows the power of mandipropamid and why you want to be maximising its use in the programme, rather than minimising its use and just getting through the season," he advocates.
