EU Annex I renewals clear first hurdle

Notifications submitted for the renewal of the first batch of active ingredients in Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414) are "admissible", the European Commission says. It has drawn up a draft decision on the admissibility of the notifications, which will allow the ais to proceed to the next stage of the renewal process. Last year, the Commission had to extend the ten-year approvals of the ais to 2011 to give it more time to organise a renewal procedure.
The first batch of ais to go through the Annex I renewal process are: the fungicides, azoxystrobin, imazalil, kresoxim-methyl and spiroxamine; the herbicides, azimsulfuron and fluroxypyr; and the plant growth regulator, prohexadione-calcium. The rapporteur and co-rapporteur member states for each ai were assigned last year.
