For the upcoming wheat harvest, Brazilian producers have received a new tool for controlling the Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Corteva Agriscience announced that the insecticide Dermacor (Chlorantraniliprole) is now a new alternative against one of the main pests in wheat. The solution, the company says, is the "anchor of the company's Seed Treatment portfolio."
In addition to wheat, Dermacor's label has also been extended for use in other winter crops such as oats, rye, barley, and triticale. Dermacor has already been recommended for pest control in crops such as soybeans, corn, cotton, sorghum, rice, and beans.
"Its action provides excellent stand maintenance, rapid crop establishment, protecting and maximizing the potential of the farmer's greatest investment: the seed," emphasized Diego Rorrato, Seed Treatment Product Leader at Corteva Agriscience.
In wheat, barley, oats, rye, and triticale, the Fall Armyworm also appears at the beginning of crop development, consuming leaves and seedlings, reducing growth and population and productivity. "Therefore, protecting the seed against the pest right from the start is important. Dermacor has translaminar action, being absorbed by the root and transported to the leaves, protecting not only the seed but the early stages of the crop, offering better quality and greater control to the farmer," Rorrato said.
Estimates from the Brazilian National Supply Company (Conab) indicate a wheat production of 9.73 million tons of grains.
