The kick-off meeting for the research program of crucial technology of continuous flow-based preparation of prothioconazole was held at the headquarters of Hailir Pharmaceutical Group on June 21, in China.

The meeting was led by Hengning Biotechnology Co., Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hailir, and supported by Qingdao Agricultural University's technical team acting as the research program's technical team.

Prothioconazole is the second largest fungicide variety in the global market. Hailir was the first from China to be granted registration of the technical material and the certification of technical equivalence in EU. The company has an industrial production facility with an annual production output of 5,000 tons.

Prothioconazole is regarded as Hailir’s strategic product, which is essential in the company’s strategic industry layout. Although Hailir has been trying hard to solve the fundamental problems and make continuous improvements, bottlenecks still need to be resolved.

At the kick-off meeting, the two parties made presentations and reported on the research progress, having discussed the existing problems. Backed by this research program, one expects an annual production capacity target of 10,000 tons of prothioconazole, which will later demonstrate industrialization. The program’s implementation significantly increases the production of prothioconazole and elevates the global market position of the Chinese prothioconazole industry.

In January 2024, Qingdao Agricultural University and Hailir Pharmaceutical Group agreed to jointly establish a research institute to create green agricultural pesticides. Both sides expressed the wish to research key technology in Qingdao to further strengthen industry-university-research cooperation, leading to deep integration in talent training, scientific research, and industrialization of technical and innovative achievement for mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, thus contributing to more and better products for the development of global agriculture.
