The Brazilian company Dinagro launched the Physcion fungicide during Hortitec 2024, which AgroPages attended.

The manufacturer said the product is formulated with an extract from Rheum palmatum, a natural element that leaves no residues, allowing harvest the day after application.

Dinagro emphasized that Physcion is a preventive fungicide that activates the plant's defense mechanisms. Physcion is currently registered for over 50 crops, including potatoes, garlic, onions, carrots, beans, peanuts, melons, papayas, tomatoes, peppers, and many others.

Its biological targets are diseases such as black spot (Alternaria solani), anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum), and powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea). Black spot, caused by the fungus Alternaria solani, is one of Brazil’s worst threats to potato growers.

Under ideal heat and humidity conditions, crop losses can reach up to 70%. Also known as "early blight," this disease can attack all aerial parts of the plant, from leaves to stems and petioles, causing black spots.

In Brazil, potatoes are one of the most important vegetables, with an annual production of about 3.5 million tons and a cultivation area of 100,000 hectares, according to the Brazilian Potato Association (ABBA).

Furthermore, Dinagro states that the product's highest efficiency is achieved through foliar applications that ensure good coverage of the aerial parts of the plants without causing runoff. Applications can be carried out using manual or motorized backpack equipment, tractor-mounted boom sprayers, or turbo atomizers, and it can also be applied via fertigation.

Physcion fungicide has the IBD (Biodynamic Institute) seal for products suitable for organic farming, certified by the Ministry of Agriculture.
