During the Hortitec 2024 fair, Rovensa Next, a multinational company, announced the launch of three new biofungicides in Brazil: Row-Vispo, Ospo Vi55, and Milarum.
These products are expected to significantly impact Brazil’s agricultural biosolutions market and are estimated at BRL6 billion. ″These three new biological products will significantly impact producer management,″ explained Bruno Dias Castanheira, Product Manager at Rovensa Next Brazil.
The new products offer ″safe and environmentally friendly alternatives to control highly destructive diseases while substantially reducing the resistance caused by chemical pesticides.″
Row-Vispo
To control rust and leaf spots in soybeans, Rovensa Next introduced Row-Vispo. This biofungicide is made from a unique strain of *Bacillus subtilis* combined with Bioevology technology. It can be used alone or alternated with other chemical fungicides at a rate of 0.75kg/ha. Castanheira recommends three applications of Row-Vispo, with ten-day intervals starting at flowering, interspersed with conventional fungicides.
Rust has been present in Brazil since 1970 in coffee, with the first soybean case reported in 2001. Both crops suffered significant losses, up to 90% in soybeans and 50% in coffee. Castanheira emphasized that any control management failure can be fatal due to the rapid spread of the rust fungus.
Ospo Vi55
To protect the health of vineyards and cucurbit crops, Rovensa Next launched Ospo Vi55, a next-generation biofungicide. This product is also formulated with *Bacillus subtilis*, specifically strain iab/bs03, and solid synergistic co-formulants to enhance its fungicidal effect. The Northeast region of Brazil, a major producer of melon and grape, frequently suffers from powdery mildew, leading to significant losses in hot and humid regions.
Castanheira highlighted that rainfall could exacerbate the powdery mildew problem, causing up to 40% production losses. He noted that pesticide residues are increasingly less tolerated in domestic and international markets, reducing available control options. Three applications of Ospo Vi55 at a rate of 1.5kg/ha are recommended, potentially increasing to six depending on infestation intensity and crop type.
Milarum
Milarum, another new product from Rovensa Next, targets downy mildew in tomatoes and late blight in potatoes. These aggressive diseases require careful management, especially in mild weather, necessitating immediate preventive measures. Castanheira suggested four to eight applications of Milarum (1.5L/ha) for effective control, starting preventively after tomato transplant and one-week post-germination in potatoes, alternating with chemical fungicides.
Bioevology Technology
Row-Vispo, Ospo Vi55, and Milarum utilize a pioneering technology in Brazil called Bioevology. This involved exclusive Rovensa Next co-formulants designed to optimize the production of secondary metabolites (bioactive compounds). ″Think of it this way, *Bacillus subtilis* needs to colonize the disease-causing agent. Bioevology opens the door for the biofungicide to act more quickly,″ explained Castanheira.
He concluded by emphasizing that biological products leave no residues in food and have no impact on the environment or the applicator’s health.
