The majority of Bayer's crop protection products it sells in Australia are made right in Australia. Warren Inwood, Managing Director – Bayer Crop Science Australia and New Zealand, details how this dedication to supporting Australian farmers comes to life in its locally made products.
We’ve recently completed the accreditation process that allows our fungicides, herbicides, insecticides and plant growth regulators to display the official Australian Made logo.
In doing so, Bayer demonstrates its support for Australian farmers, Australian jobs and the Australian economy by becoming the largest global R&D and crop protection company currently approved to use the Australian Made logo on crop protection products for Australian agriculture.
You’ll begin to notice the logo on 60 Bayer products across 35 brands in various pack sizes.
We manufacture these products at our factory in the Brisbane suburb of Pinkenba. This highlights our commitment to support local jobs and ensure our supply chains are as reliable as possible.
Securing the right to use the Australian Made logo makes good business sense to us – more than 80% of Australians say that buying Australian-made is important to them, and farming communities are no different.
This announcement gives farmers confidence that they are supporting local jobs and helping bolster Australian agriculture’s self-reliance.
Pointing to quality assurance
The Australian Made logo is a reassuring symbol for customers – as is the Bayer cross. When you see the Bayer logo, you can be sure you’re buying a genuine product that has passed stringent quality control processes.
From start to finish at Pinkenba, our team adheres to the highest safety and quality standards when formulating products. Our products are accredited through numerous schemes and programs, and our commitment to quality extends from our product formulation down to on-the-ground stewardship programs.
Supporting innovation
We continue to invest to bring global innovations to the local market. Bayer is proud to have global partnerships with world-leading scientists and research institutions, and for nearly 100 years has brought new technology to Australian farmers to help them improve yields and returns.
Bayer is invested in the success of Australian communities, with its Australian team involved in crop protection from new molecule discovery through to local product formulation at our own plant.
Bayer is a global leader in investment in R&D, innovation and discovery, with the benefits of this research reaching farmers all around Australia. Aside from supporting the local economy, that investment has benefited Australian farmers – putting millions of dollars back into their pockets through productivity gains.
The Aussie innovations continue – we are rolling out upgrades at our Pinkenba plant to double output for a number of products, and we will operate the most advanced suspension concentrate manufacturing plant in Australia.
Having a local formulation plant means we can bring new products quickly to market once they’re registered, and we can respond to rapidly changing market conditions both in Australia and within the region.
We also continue to invest in our Herbicide Innovation Partnership with the Grains Research and Development Corporation, which ensures new global herbicide development must work for Australian weeds under Australian conditions.
I urge you to consider whether your next purchase of farm inputs contributes to the ongoing viability and innovation of Australian agriculture. Together, we can grow.
