Syngenta will bring its portfolio of solutions to the 49° Expocitros fair, one of the biggest citrus events in Latin America, to support farmers in tackling the impacts caused by greening, one of the main threats to citrus. Brazil, the largest producer and exporter of juice in the world, is facing a significant increase in the disease, the incidence reached 38.06% in 2023, according to the Defense Fund for Citrus Plant (Fundecitrus).

In response to this challenge, Syngenta highlights Minecto® Pro, a foliar insecticide with an innovative formulation and broad spectrum, developed to effectively control the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri Kuwayama), the vector of greening. The synergy of two modes of action favors anti-resistance management, essential for controlling pests effectively.

″Minecto® Pro has two active ingredients, cyantraniliprole and abamectin, to enable differentiated control of target pests. The solution is the result of many years of research and has the flexibility of application on citrus, and can be applied through foliar, ground or aerial spraying″, highlights Paulo Azevedo, Marketing Leader at Syngenta Crop Protection.

Another challenge for citrus farming, which will also be discussed at Expocitros, is the importance of adopting practices that make citrus farming viable and the advancement of productivity and profitability in the field. Greening has proven to be a critical threat and one of the main reasons is the maintenance of diseased plants in production areas, which favors the occurrence of the disease.

To overcome this challenge, the eradication of diseased plants and the use of healthy seedlings are essential to contain the spread of the disease. In this sense, Syngenta will raise awareness among event visitors about the importance of conscious citrus management as an essential step in controlling the vector, aiming to guarantee the perpetuity of the national citrus industry.
