Syngenta, a global leader in the development of crop protection technologies and solutions said it could provide some US$1 billion for barter sales during the 2024/25 harvest.

The focus of the campaign, titled, ″Barter em Campo 2024,″ is to support operations for soybean, corn, cotton, and coffee farmers. In 2023, the company agreed to provide some US$850 million after negotiations for this type of commercialization.

The main novelty for this year is the launch of the Barter + modality, a tool that protects the minimum commodity price and allows future price appreciation to be transformed into credits for farmers. In addition, the company is continuing with traditional exchange modalities, in which producers receive the inputs necessary for crop management, acquiring them through exchanging part of the agricultural production harvested in the 2023/24 harvest or in the following season.

″The Barter em Campo 2024 movement reinforces our position of being alongside producers, not only as a global leader in the development of agricultural technologies, but also by offering financial solutions that offer advantages and security during operations and reducing costs for the production process for large, medium, and small farmers. We intend to travel throughout Brazil to promote this offer as a way of supporting farmers, not only with our product innovations but also our complete range of solutions that include various financial services, such as Barter +,″ said Henrique Franco, Director of Crops and Campaigns from Syngenta Crop Protection.

The campaign aims to benefit producers, as the purchase of inputs for this year's second harvest could be delayed, so, therefore, it is not yet possible to accurately predict profits at the end of the 2023/24 harvest. ″There is huge potential for Brazilian exports. Our relationship with China not only supports our barter operations, but it also benefits Brazilian producers,″ Franco said.

Through this tool of exchange, Syngenta exported 1.1 million tons of soybeans, 500,000 bags of coffee, 120,000 tons of corn and 60,000 tons of cotton in 2023. A large proportion of this amount was destined for the Chinese market, which is currently the largest buyer of agricultural commodities from Brazil.

Another point that differentiates Syngenta’s barter system is Nutrade, a trading company that is part of the Syngenta Crop Protection business platform, which is responsible for the entire operational system and risk reduction for operations, offering innovative and exclusive solutions for each client.
