Industry experts shared insightful perspectives at the conference

Song Bao'an, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Guizhou University delivered a speech titled "Requirements and Prospects for the Development of Green Agriculture," sharing the latest achievements of his team in green pest control technology. Taking the green control technology of tea plant diseases and pests as an example, he introduced the technological model developed by the team, fully demonstrating the important role of green plant protection in promoting the development of green agriculture. To address this challenge, the nation continually introduces green pest control policies, vigorously promoting biological and physical control and other green technologies to reduce the incidence of diseases and pests, and improve the quality and safety of agricultural products. Currently, a variety of green pest control products and technological models have been successfully developed and have achieved significant economic, ecological, and social benefits in practical applications.

China Bio-pesticide Industry Report officially debuted

This report indicates that sustainable agriculture and green pest control have gradually become a global consensus. Driven by environmental protection and food safety, and with the continuous advancement of biotechnology and breakthroughs in significant challenges, the global biological products market is facing unprecedented development opportunities. Biological products have become a major driving force in the growth of global plant protection. Zhao Xiaoma, Partner of at China Insights Consultancy shared that the parallel development of biopesticides and chemical pesticides will be a major trend in the future of the pesticide industry. In recent years, investment and financing activities in the biopesticides field have been relatively active, with capital aiding in the industry's innovation and upgrade. Over the next five years, the biopesticide market is expected to maintain an annual growth rate of over 10%, with achieving a market share of one-third to one-half being an ideal state.

Opportunities and challenges coexist, biological innovation in China is on the rise

Although biopesticides have advantages such as low toxicity, environmental friendliness, and a lower likelihood of resistance development, biopesticide formulations face technical challenges such as limited resources, difficulties in developing novel target pesticides, and low stability of active ingredients.

Ms. Yang Yongzhen, former Secretary-General of the FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide Standards and an international pesticide management expert, stated in an interview at the conference that in response to the challenges of promoting the application of biopesticides, further measures should be taken in the following four aspects: First, to enhance the innovation capacity of biopesticides, increase the number of new products, and expand the coverage of crop pest and disease control; second, to stabilize government support policies and increase support for the production and sale of biopesticides; third, to intensify publicity and training efforts, popularize knowledge of biopesticides, and increase farmers' awareness and acceptance of biopesticides; fourth, to improve the production process of biopesticides, striving for greater breakthroughs in active ingredient content, formulation processing, storage shelf life, and application technology requirements. At the same time, it is necessary to expand the production capacity of biopesticides, increase market supply, and meet the growing market demand.

However, breakthroughs in synthetic biology, gene editing technology, RNAi technology, co-extraction techniques, and nanotechnology have effectively improved the economic benefits of biopesticides in terms of resource availability, pest control effectiveness, and research and development cycles. Currently, the development of the biopesticide industry in China is rapid, with an increasing number of biopesticide products being registered each year. The product range covers insecticides, fungicides, and plant growth regulators, among other categories, and many industry companies have already started to lay out their biopesticide business.

It's worth mentioning that many expert attendants on site expressed the same view during interviews with reporters: unlike chemical pesticides, the technology and quality of China's biological products are not inferior to those of developed countries in Europe and America, and can even surpass them by taking shortcuts. When discussing the current state of global bio-pesticide research and development, global leading companies represented by Corteva, Syngenta, and FMC, obtain the rights to use, develop, and commercialize biological pesticide-related technologies and products through collaborations with biotech companies. Chinese biotech enterprises, exemplified by Chengdu New Sun, have been deeply engaged in the biotechnology track for many years through independent innovative research and development. New Sun boasts a rich product pipeline, covering botanical biopesticides, bioplant growth regulators, multifunctional biostimulants, soil conditioners, forming a diversified range of bio-integrated technology products and comprehensive solutions for crop growth. It is reported that New Sun has been deeply cultivating the Chinese market for many years and is now actively expanding into overseas markets, seeking global partners to contribute to sustainable agriculture worldwide.
