OMNIA Small Scale Limited has introduced two types of compound fertilizer on the local market to encourage crop diversification among farmers in the country.
The compound WM and WVC products are best suited for wheat, vegetables, maize, cotton and potatoes.
Omnia agronomist Henry Mutelo said in an interview in Lusaka on August 2.
Mr Mutelo said the products have combinations which are for a specific crop given that various crops have different requirements.
"These products will encourage crop diversification, we want farmers to grow various crops and these products have all the necessary requirements for the crops.”
"The combinations are specific for crops like vegetables…we have included micro nutrients like zinc and boron, these are not found in other fertilizers, they contribute to the yield that have an effect on the quality of the crop,” he said.
Mr Mutelo said the company has come up with fertilizer in liquid and powder form which can be applied through irrigation by both small-scale and commercial farmers.
"We also have solubles, a type of fertilizer in liquid form, and phosphates in powder form, these are available in smaller packaging which are portable and can be applied through irrigation,” he said.
He said Omnia has also provided service to farmers to test soil before applying fertilizer, adding that the move will prevent soil degradation.
