Vasco Cortes Martins, CEO of Nutrifarms, and Félix García, CEO of Kimitec’s MAAVi Innovation Center, have recently signed a strategic collaboration agreement aimed at overcoming the main agronomic challenges facing olive groves and increasing sustainability.

″We believe that this agreement with MAAVi Innovation Center will accelerate the research and development of new natural solutions specifically for olive trees, which imply a new step forward on our path towards sustainability. I am sure that, as a result of this alliance, we will obtain advanced solutions that can benefit the entire agricultural sector by solving different agricultural challenges,″ said Cortes Martins, the CEO of Nutrifarms, at the contract signing event.

Specifically, Kimitec’s MAAVi Innovation Center will research and develop customized solutions adapted to Nutrifarms’ agronomic needs in terms of pest and disease control during harvest, environmental stress reduction, efficient water management, and increased crop production and quality.

″Our goal is to walk hand-in-hand with Nutrifarms throughout their transition towards residue-free production over the next few years,″ says Kimitec’s García.

Reducing the use of synthetic chemical products and mineral fertilizers while maximizing the crop’s genetic potential is a priority for olive growers.

To this end, MAAVi Innovation Center has created its MAAVi Labs, making its R&D&I center, the largest in Europe dedicated to natural products, available to farmers, where they develop sustainable and productive solutions to the main challenges of today’s agriculture. These strategic alliances start with active listening, understanding the challenge and end with the product.

What is a MAAVi Lab?
A MAAVi Lab is our way to focus on a specific problem in the fields of agriculture, livestock, aquaculture, agro-industry, cosmetics, etc., and establish a collaboration for the development of innovative, sustainable solutions. Aiming to reduce losses, increase production, put our expertise in biotechnology and all the resources available at our research center at the service of the market, achieve zero residues and sustainability in industrial processes, and find natural molecules capable of replacing chemical substances, these strategic projects are led by the MAAVi and targeted at any company committed to change.

A change in the way food is produced, replacing synthetic chemicals with natural solutions: That is Kimitec’s challenge, the reason why we opened our MAAVi Innovation Center, Europe’s largest biotechnology center for natural agriculture, in 2019, and the mission of our team of over 80 scientists and researchers, who work daily with and for any partner willing to align with our vision.
