Xingfa Group to deploy L-glufosinate production via a biochemical L-glufosinate pilot project implemented by its subsidiary

A few days ago, the environmental impact assessment of the pilot project of production of L-glufosinate undertaken by China’s Hubei Jixing Chemical Group was publicized on the local government website for public comment. 

The subsidiary Hubei Jixing Chemical Group Co., Ltd was founded in May 2009, as located in Wanli Chemical Park, Yuan’an County, which is one of the five strategic production bases of Xingfa Group, being engaged in development, production and marketing of yellow phosphorus and fine phosphorus chemical products. Jixing Chemical and Hubei Taisheng Chemical Co., Ltd are both the subsidiaries of Xingfa Group.

Considering the strategic industry layout of the group company, Jixing Chemical plans to spend RMB35 million yuan on implementation of a ″biochemical L-glufosinate pilot project″ utilizing the unused living area of the factory. The pilot project is expected to provide a basis for the subsequent mass production of the biochemical L-glufosinate. After completion of the pilot project, production equipment will be upgraded towards the follow-up industrialized trial production.

According to the announcement, the pilot project is located in Wanli Chemical Park, Yuan’an County, with a total investment of RMB35 million yuan, scheduled for completion in September 2024. 

The project measures include an annual 15-ton L-glufosinate plant and supporting facilities, covering the production workshop and tank field. The project will use L-homoserine and Methyldiethoxyphosphine as raw materials, which are acylated, cyclized, esterified, Arbuzov reacted, acidized, ammonified, separated and refined to obtain L-glufosinate. The contents of project construction include an annual 15-ton biochemical L-glufosinate production unit (pilot test) and supporting utilities, with an annual output of 15 tons of L-glufosinate , 17.15 tons of ammonium chloride (by-product) and 10.5 tons of chloroethane (by-product).
