Hubei Zhongxun Thinkgreen Technology to release metamifop in 2024 while new cyhalofop-butyl production line brought on stream

Metamifop is an aryloxy phenoxy propionate herbicide, which is effective in control of major weeds in paddy field, such as barnyard grass, moleplant seed, crab grass and goosegrass herb. Metamifop is low toxic, widely mixable, easy to use and fast weeding. Metamifop is a an aryloxy phenoxy propionate herbicide highly safe for paddy rice, being highly effective in control of moleplant seed, as well as crab grass, paspalum distichum, green foxtail, goosegrass herb and amur foxtail. Therefore, metamifop and cyhalofop-butyl both play an important role in weed control in paddy field.

According to China Pesticide Information Network, up to date there have been 55 metamifop product registrations in China, including 7 technical materials, 51 single agents and 4 mixtures which are mainly EC and OD; There have been 284 cyhalofop-butyl product registrations in China, including 32 technical materials, 272 single agents and 12 mixtures which are mainly EW, EC and OD.

With the growing direct seeding of rice and the increased resistance from grassy weed, the demand for cyhalofop-butyl is increasing year by year. At present, the Chinese market demand for cyhalofop-butyl is 3,500-4,000 tons per year. The annual quantity shipped by Hubei Zhongxun Thinkgreen Technology has exceeded 2,000 tons. So far, the demand for metamifop in the Chinese market is 1,000-1,500 tons per year. In the second half of 2024, Hubei Zhongxun Thinkgreen Technology expects shipment of 200-300 tons of metamifop TC. 

Due to the downturn in the upstream intermediate (DHPPA) market and the lower price of raw materials, the current market price of DHPPA is RMB82,000-83,000 yuan per ton. The market price of metamifop TC has declined compared to the previous business cycle. Today, it is quoted at RMB250,000 yuan per ton. 

At present, metamifop has an excellent effect of control of barnyard grass and crab grass. Its application dosage is: Taking 10% content as an example, the dosage of early-season rice is 50-150 ml/mu, to be used in combination with cyhalofop-butyl; The dosage of single-season rice is 100-200 ml/mu, to be also used in combination with cyhalofop-butyl. The optimal temperature for application of metamifop and cyhalofop-butyl is the same, being 20-32 degrees Celsius, within which an optimized effect of control can be achieved. If the ambient temperature is high and the weed resistance is high, propanil can be used together. It should be noted that the spray should be applied after 4 p.m. as much as possible, which is meant to avoid spray at high temperature. In this way, not only phytotoxicity is reduced, but also adsorption of the pesticide liquid is increased. Metamifop should be stem and foliar sprayed, which can be applied via crop protection machine, electric sprayer and aerial spraying.
