Syngenta exclusively revealed to AgroPages the launch of its insecticide and acaricide, Joiner, which is based on the active ingredient, Plinazolin (isocycloseram).
According to the manufacturer, the product represents a ″new level of control for the major pests affecting coffee and various other vegetable, green and fruit crops.″ Brazil holds the title of the world's largest coffee producer, but faces numerous threats to productivity.
Joiner is recommended for use against the insects, Hypothenemus hampei and Leucoptera coffeella, and the mites, Brevipalpus phoenicis and Oligonychus ilicis, which are among the most damaging pests to coffee.
Syngenta explained that Plinazolin is a molecule with a new mode of action, which ensures ″extremely effective control against a large number of pests.″According to the agrochemical multinational, the new product's key unique feature is its "high-performance control," with immediate action and a long control period.
″Joiner is here to revolutionize coffee pest management, delivering a new level of borer control, and excellence in leaf miner and mite control, meaning a broader spectrum,″ said Marcos Queiroz, Syngenta's Marketing Manager for Insecticide Products and Innovations.

He added that the product was developed to offer coffee growers an ″innovative″ control measure.″There are multiple characteristics that, in synergy, provide unprecedented benefits, such as the rapid cessation of pest feeding and the maintenance of a high level of efficacy for longer periods, ensuring higher quality and profitability at coffee plantations,″ Queiroz said.
In addition to coffee, the product is highly flexible and recommended for various horticultural crops, such as pumpkin, zucchini, garlic, eggplant, potato, onion, chayote, citrus, eggplant, melon, watermelon, cucumber, bell pepper, chili, okra and tomato.
In recent years, Brazil has become a major player in the international horticulture market. The country ranks third globally in fruit production, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Fruit and Derivative Exporters (Abrafrutas). It has a diverse and segmented vegetable market, allowing for the cultivation of various foods.
"We know that to enhance control efficiency with safer technologies, innovation plays a fundamental role," Queiroz stressed. "Syngenta invests in technology and innovation to develop the best solutions. Joiner delivers unprecedented control against major horticultural pests, even those that are difficult to control, providing more convenience for producers in their daily activities," he said in conclusion.
