Sipcam Nichino Brasil announced, exclusively to AgroPages, that it added the fungicide, Pulsor 240 SC (Thifluzamide), to its portfolio.
The agrochemical is indicated for controlling Rhizoctoniosis, or Rhizoctonia, caused by the fungus, Rhizoctonia solani, commonly known as asphalt spot. The fungus is one of the main challenges facing producers in the harvest today. The action of this pathogen harms the vigor and establishment of crops, and can even lead to the loss of an entire tuber crop, experts said.
According to the manufacturer, Pulsor 240 SC is a systemic fungicide from the carboxanilide group with a slow translocation, and is also endowed with preventive and curative properties. The company said that the product is also registered for use on coffee, chrysanthemums and lawns. In terms of potato cultivation, Sipcam Nichino stressed that Pulsor 240 SC should be applied in the planting furrow.
"Specifically for the control of Rhizoctoniosis, it is preventive and curative and acts against the various races of the fungus, Rhizoctonia solani," explained Vitor Cabral Araujo from the market development department.
"It is a solution capable of controlling this disease throughout much of the potato cycle. The fungicide has a prolonged residual effect and curative action. It has also been shown, in tests and studies, to provide an excellent cost-benefit ratio for crop treatment. It is now a safe option for potato growers against potential losses from fruit rot," he added.
Cabral explained that Rhizoctonia mainly appears in cold soils and attacks shoots before and after emergence. "It affects the stand and uniformity of crops. The attack of the fungus begins through the soil, leading to root rot, cankers and falling," he said.
"Applied preventively, Pulsor 240 SC is quickly absorbed by plants and helps potato growers achieve more productivity and profitability, free from the damage of the disease," Cabral added, noting that cases of the disease have become more common in the main potato-producing states in Brazil.
According to official sources, the national production of the tuber is around 4 million tons annually.
