Congress.pngBASF's agricultural solutions division unveiled its newest herbicide, Voraxor (Saflufenacil + Trifludimoxazin), during the IV Argentine Weed Congress 2023, which received special coverage from AgroPages.

The product was introduced at a time of the season when increased rainfall and soil improvements are expected for planting, highlighting weeds as the main challenge to be faced by Argentine producers.

The manufacturer announced at this event, which brought together the agricultural community in the coastal city of Mar del Plata, that Voraxor would soon be commercially available.

According to BASF, Voraxor is a herbicide for fallow management and potential use in crops such as soybeans, corn, wheat, and barley. It provides strong and rapid control of weeds and excellent persistence effects on broadleaf weeds that have not yet emerged. At the same time, it can complement and be compatible with other products. Due to its excellent selectivity, it can be applied up to the day of sowing.

"Faced with environmental and technical challenges, agriculture is reinventing itself, and the Argentine farmer is eager for new molecules that provide better anti-resistance management and better environmental profiles," said Juan Pérez Brea, Soybean Crop Manager at BASF for Argentina.

According to him, to meet current needs, BASF has incorporated a new active ingredient, Tirexor, which will be present in the Voraxor herbicide.

"Today, 50% of our Crop Protection portfolio has been in Argentina for less than five years, in line with our goal of increasing the sale of products with more sustainable environmental profiles by 7% per year," Brea added.

The active ingredient Tirexor works by inhibiting the enzyme Protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), which alters chlorophyll production in plants. Thus, it uses a new site of action for the optimal control of broadleaf weeds, including the most resistant ones that cause significant problems for farmers.

The IV Argentine Weed Congress 2023 was promoted by the Argentine Association of Weed Science (ASACIM).
