A few days ago, Chinese agrochemical company Limin Co., Ltd., held a launch ceremony for its tembotrione intermediate project, the 2-chloro-4-methanesulfonyl-3-[(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)methyl]benzoic acid project.
Limin said that the project is one of its new initiative to consolidate its advantageous resources and utilize its specialist knowledge, to achieve the long-term and sound development of the company.
Previously on August 18, Limin said that the 600-ton 2-chloro-4-methanesulfonyl-3-[(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)methyl]benzoic acid project, launched by its subsidiary Hebei Shuangji Chemical Co., Ltd., was endorsed by local government authorities.
According to the announcement, the purpose of the project is to further consolidate and strengthen the industrial complementarity between different production bases; upgrade production in each base in a differentiated manner; enhance the company’s core competitiveness; and reinforce the intermediate production base of Shuangji Chemical.
The project has received an investment of RMB60 million yuan, and will, upon completion, generate an annual capacity of 600 tons of 2-chloro-4-methanesulfonyl-3-[(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)methyl]benzoic acid, to provide the group’s customers and subsidiaries with a high-quality and stable intermediate.
2-chloro-4-methanesulfonyl-3-[(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)methyl]benzoic acid is the intermediate of Tembotrione, which is a triketone HPPD inhibiting herbicide developed by Bayer that was registered and launched in Austria in 2007.
The product offers broad herbicidal spectrum, good systemicity and high safety, being used on corn fields to control grassy weeds such as crab grass and green foxtail, as well as broad-leaved weeds such as amaranth, goosefoot, leaf mustard, morning glory and nettle, while also being used on sunflower, sugarcane and non-crop fields.
