Heavily armed criminals invaded a pesticide company, took more than thirty employees hostage and stole a load of pesticides valued at around R$50 million (US$ 10.56 million), according to local media’s report.
The target company was Sipcam Nichino. The theft began at 11:30 pm on July 26, in the rural area of Uberaba (MG), 482 km from Belo Horizonte.
According to the staff of Sipcam Nichino, the gang approached the security guards, took away their weapons and kidnaped more than 30 company employees. About ten criminals, all hooded and armed with rifles, submachine guns and pistols, loaded the robbed pesticides into three trucks and two cars. The entire theft lasted about 5 hours.
An official forensic team went to the site of the incident to collect traces that will support the investigation, the civil police in Minas Gerais said. A process was also instituted to ascertain the authorship and circumstances of the facts. As of press time, no robbers had been arrested and no charges had been determined, local media reported.
