Yifan Group launches Clethodim 480g/l based on Clefandim^® technology

According to public information from the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, in May 2023, Jiangsu Yunfan Chemical Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Yifan Group, became the first company to successfully register Clethodim 480g/l EC (for export only), a herbicide with low toxicity. The registration certificate number is EX20230025, and the registration is valid until May 7, 2028.

Yifan Group has successfully developed a new technology that enhances the stability of Clethodim formulations after years of research on the clethodim formulation process. The new technology incorporates Yifan Group’s advanced technical (″TC″) manufacturing and formulation technologies. Clethodim formulations containing this technology are branded Clefandim^®. The unique high-concentration clethodim TC purification technology can significantly reduce the content of impurities that affect the quality of Clefandim^® products, and the adjuvents and solvents compatible with the clethodim component can effectively address the problem of decomposition during the shelf life of Clefandim^® products. Based on this technology, Yifan Group has launched series of upgraded clethodim products—Clefandim^®240EC and Clefandim^®360EC, which have been registered in several countries. Building on the development experience of Clefandim^®240EC and 360EC, Yifan Group succeeds in developing Clefandim^®480EC after two-years’ efforts.

Clefandim^®480EC has the following features:

1. Stable efficacy

The advanced formulation of Clefandim^®480EC ensures its efficacy against grassy weeds in broadleaf crops, including crab grass, goosegrass, broadleaf signalgrass, green foxtail grass, barnyard grass, paspalum, Echinochloa colona, and wild oats. Field trials carried out in the United States (North Carolina, Indiana, California) and Australia (Victoria) have shown Clefandim^®480EC’s equivalent efficacy to local leading brands of clethodim 240EC and 360EC.

2. Good stability during the shelf life

Stability tests conducted under storage conditions of 22±2°C for 12 months showed that the decomposition rate of the active ingredient was less than 2%. Considering the decomposable nature of clethodim, Clefandim^®480EC with high concentration of active ingredient exhibits excellent stability.

3. Cost-saving benefits for growers

Less amount is required to solve the issue of agricultural weed control on the same area of arable land if Clefandim®480EC is used. This helps operators save costs in terms of storage, labor, energy consumption, and tariffs, and growers in reducing packaging, adjuvant, and transportation costs. Calculations show that Clefandim^®480EC can save costs by over 16% compared to clethodim 240g/l and over 7% compared to clethodim 360g/l.

4. Conducive to reduction of carbon emissions

Compared to low-concentration clethodim formulations, Clefandim^®480EC is used at a rate of 50% of clefandim 240g/l and 75% of clefandim 360g/l. For addressing weed issues on the same area of arable land, Clefandim^®480EC utilizes fewer solvents, less packaging, and less transportation fuel, which means reduced carbon emissions.
