The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO Panel) has published its assessment on the safety of the six-event stack genetically modified (GM) herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant maize
Bt11 × MIR162 × MIR604 × MON 89034 × 5307 × GA21. The Scientific Opinion is published based on the application EFSA-GMO-DE-2018-149 under Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003 received from Syngenta Crop Protection NV/SA.
The scope of application EFSA-GMO-DE-2018-149 is import, processing and food and feed uses within the European Union (EU) of maize Bt11 × MIR162 × MIR604 × MON 89034 × 5307 × GA21 and does not include cultivation. The GMO Panel has previously assessed the six single events Bt11, MIR162, MIR604, MON 89034, 5307, and GA21, and did not identify safety concerns. No new data on the single maize events or the assessed subcombinations were identified that could lead to the modification of the original conclusions on their safety.
The GMO Panel concludes that the six-event stack maize and the 30 subcombinations covered by the scope of the application are as safe as their conventional counterparts and the tested non-GM maize varieties with respect to potential effects on human and animal health and the environment.
