The Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks, of the Mexican Health Authority (the Cofepris) has taken another significant step in the process of renewal of pesticides and plant nutrients registered from 2005. 93% of those products have been renewed and they will get another five years’ approvals if confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Cofepris reported receiving a total of 110 applications for re-registration (72 pesticides and 38 plant nutrients), of which 102 have already been approved and the rest are still in the process of evaluation. The import and export of the products are allowed for 46 domestic and foreign firms who filed the renewal on time. This renewal will reinforce the protection of the general public and raise the competitiveness of exported pesticides or fertilizers, the Cofepris noted.
