Syngenta France to launch new wheat fungicide Aquicine Duo in 2024

With AQUICINE^® Duo, Syngenta France provides cereal growers with a unique combination of two biocontrols with complementary modes of action to protect wheat against septoria.

Further step towards the agroecological transition

AQUICINE^® Duo is a new fungicide specialty, 100% biocontroled, which meets new societal and environmental expectations and allows farmers to protect their wheat septoria effectively while reducing their TFI (Treatment Frequency Index).

According to an ADquation study carried out for Syngenta in June 2022, more than two-thirds of farmers who do not yet use biocontrol solutions intend to do so in the next two years. This study confirms farmers' interest in these new solutions and their desire to increase their commitment to agroecological transition.

Ready-to-use solution combining 2 biocontrols with complementary modes of action

AQUICINE^® Duo is a solution of natural origin, ready to use, which combines two biocontrols offering complementary modes of action: sulfur, a molecule which acts by contact, and the phosphonate, with a Natural Defense Stimulator-type mode of action.

Combining two complementary modes of action without any resistance known to date for these two modes of action, this innovation, 100% biocontroled, participates in the management of resistance. AQUICINE^® Duo is thus fully in line with the Responsible Fungicide Protection (PFR) approach, initiated several years ago by Syngenta, for effective and long-lasting protection against diseases of straw cereals, in particular thanks to its multi-site modes of action.

AQUICINE^® Duo benefits from HPM (High Phosphite in Mixes) technology, a patented technology that combines phosphonate with sulfur in the same formulation. This unique formulation, developed and patented by Ceradis^® Crop Protection, gives this new biocontrol solution a very good washout resistance, excellent mixing compatibility (no physico-chemical compatibility problem noted in more than 60 mixtures tested) and ease of implementation during preparation and spraying.

Results of trials confirm possibility of considering 100% biocontroled T1

The results obtained in the Syngenta 2022 trials with this 100% biocontrol ready-to-use fungicide were very satisfactory:

• applied alone at T1, AQUICINE^® Duo effectively manages wheat septoria with a 100% biocontrol solution.

• applied in combination with T1, with a triazole partner, in the presence of stripe rust, AQUICINE^® Duo increases the septoria efficacy of the fungicide partner and does not antagonize rust.
  

In T1, AQUICINE^® Duo can be applied alone, in a septoria risk situation at a dose of 2 to 2.5 l/ha, depending on the level of risk, or in combination at a dose of 1.5 to 2 l /ha, with a fungicide partner on stripe rust in a septoria + stripe rust risk situation. 

In the absence of T1, AQUICINE^® Duo can be used in T2, at a dose of 1.5 to 2 l/ha in combination with a fungicide partner.

This new 100% biocontroled fungicide specialty, which allows cereal growers to take another step towards the agroecological transition, will be available to protect wheat in 2024.
