China kresoxim-methyl registrations surge

The fungicide kresoxim-methyl has lost its administrative protection in China this June, thus more companies are encouraged seeking registration on the products.

According to ICAMA, 5 registrations have been granted since 2010, they including: Qingdao Jinernong’s 30% SC against wheat rust; Shanxi Zhengbiao CropScience’s 30% SC against early blight on tomato; Shanxi Welch CropScience’s 40% SC against leaf spot and fruit rot on apple; Shanxi Thompson Biotech’s 60% WG against leaf spot and fruit rot on apple; Guangdong Ruidefeng’s 50% WG against powdery mildew on cucumber.

The original developer BASF has not applied any patent about the chemical in China, but gained a 7.5 year’s administrative protection since December 2003. Therefore, only 3 Chinese company were authorized by ICAMA before 2009: Shandong Jingbo’s 95% TC and 30% WP against powdery mildew on cucumber and strawberry; Anhui Huaxing’s 95% TC and 30% SC against wheat powdery mildew, wheat rust, tomato early blight, grape mould; Jiangsu Gengyun Chem’s 95%TC.

At present, some Chinese producers have become patentees on its combinations with other agrochemicals such as isoprothiolane, iprobenfos, propiconazole, flusilazole, myclobutanil. The Swiss multinational Syngenta has gained a patent of a mixture with another fungicide fludioxonil and the above patent is now under protected in China. Two other patents, Bayer’s combination with an insecticide imidacloprid and SCUT (South China University of Technology)’s preparation method on its WG are pending in China.
