The 5th edition of ABSA 2023, or Agri Business Summit & Awards, was held in Hyderabad, India on April 26, 2023. It is an annual event organised by Ray Consulting to honour and to recognise the contributions of companies and individuals to the advancement of Indian agriculture. All those involved in agricultural inputs, namely, seeds, fertilizers and pesticides, both chemical and bio ones, are covered.
To kick-off the evening’s events, a panel discussion was held on ″Preparing Agriculture for 2030″. C S Liew of Pacific Agriscience, one of the partners of Ray Consulting, was a panellist. He specifically touched on the importance of increasing famer income to ensure food security and stated that exports of higher-value horticultural products (fresh fruit and vegetables) would be a way to increase Indian farmers’ income. On the agricultural sustainability and mitigating climate change angles, C S Liew put forward a proposal to use technologies to convert agricultural waste such as oil palm trunks, cereal straws and pineapple leaves into useful consumer products, enabling farmers to reap a ″second harvest″. (Refer to C S Liew’s article on ″Second Harvest″ published in AgroPages on February 7, 2023).
