On April 24, China’s Nanjing Agricultural University’s national invention patent ″The use of an efficiency-increasing and use-decreasing pesticide composition in prevention and control of wheat scab″ (ZL201610036814.X) was licensed exclusively to Shandong Binhai Hansheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd, for which the signing ceremony was held at the Research Institute of Nanjing Agricultural University. This strategic cooperation kicks off the process of industrialization of the patented pioneer product, which will provide a new tool for efficient and green control of wheat scab in China.
The product Jinggangmycin.Prothioconazole under the patent is expected to become a unique novel product, due to its distinctive features of efficient control of wheat scab as well as the con-current control of powdery mildew, rust disease, sheath blight, significant reduction of DON, induction of plant’s disease resistance and reduction of the use of chemical pesticides. The product will play a major role in China’s no less than RMB3 billion gibberella control market, being expected to hit annual sale of above RMB100 million. In the future, the product will also play a part in disease control in paddy field and will become an important tool for prevention and control of rice false smut.
So far, the research achievement has been granted more than 10 Chinese national invention patents, as well as seven international patents respectively in the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, Japan and Australia.
Wheat scab is one of the major diseases in the wheat growing regions worldwide, creating harm to wheat from the stage of wheat germination up to the stage of harvesting and storing. Because of its wide pathogenic hosts, it is difficult to control the disease via disease-resistant breeding. Hence, the prevention and control have always relied on chemical products.
