With increasing investments in recent years in sustainability, ADAMA is preparing for a new phase in its ESG profile by hiring TOTVS Consulting, the consulting arm of the multinational considered the largest technology company in Brazil. The first step of the process will involve a broad consultation with ADAMA's stakeholders, including employees, distributors, cooperatives, farmers, agencies linked to agriculture, environmentalists and researchers, to diagnose the company's maturity and utilize opportunities for improvement.
Appointed last year as leader of the company's sustainability portfolio, Lydia Damian (Senior Manager of Communication at ADAMA) formed a special committee in 2022 to discuss and monitor ESG. ″This year we entered a new stage in ADAMA's sustainability journey, by listening to our stakeholders, putting our brand promise into practice and making commitments. For this reason, the partnership with a consultancy company specializing in the area has become fundamental,″ Damian said.
According to Marco Cafasso (Director of TOTVS Consulting), interviewing people and entities linked to ADAMA and the sector in which the company operates is essential in this process. ″This is the first step in this work, a diagnosis of the company's maturity to build an ESG agenda towards reducing risks for all stakeholders, while leveraging opportunities and greater resilience for the business,″ he said.
With the diagnosis being ready, it will be possible to define ADAMA's ESG priority actions, through an action plan that sets the definitions of the company’s related strategies. The fundamental role of consultancy in this area will be to contribute to the development of business models that integrate environmental, social and corporate governance issues into the company's strategy, reducing risks and leveraging opportunities. ″What we can guarantee is that we will intensify our attention to sustainable actions, as well as define clear and measurable goals, mainly in the short and medium terms, which will include 2023, 2024 and 2025,″ Damian said, stressing that it will be possible to maintain a structured and in-depth monitoring of results to ensure the company’s evolution.
Sustainability has been gaining greater importance in ADAMA's global businesses and the company is continuing to adapt to face the challenges of climate change and the growing global food crisis. Juan Valero (Global Head of Sustainability at ADAMA) has been working with Brazil and other countries with a large representation in the company's business, which is one of its focuses. The country has an increasingly sustainable portfolio, whether in the composition of innovative formulations with more environmentally-friendly components or in the high concentration of an active ingredient, which ensures less packaging use and, therefore, less water for cleaning that requires triple washing, for example.
″In addition to the high technology and innovation of our formulations, through several launches last year of fungicides and herbicides and biosolutions, ADAMA in Brazil and the rest of the world has been working constantly to reduce the use of natural resources and greenhouse gas emissions in our operations with challenging goals,″ Damian said, noting that TOTVS' consultancy will highlight risks, support all current work, and create opportunities and comparative scenarios for the business’ sustainability.
