PMFAI being the largest and oldest national association representing Agrochemical / Pesticide Industry in India, has been closely working with CSIR-IICT for last several years on Mission Mode Projects for indigenously developing Pesticide molecules (Technical Grade Pesticides and Intermediates) which helped progress of Indian Agrochemical manufacturing sector. CSIR-IICT in collaboration with PMFAI & Indian industries developed many Technical Grade Pesticides and Intermediates for which Indian industries were dependent on complete imports. IICT has also played leading role in developing synthetic pyrethroids. Today, India is one of the leading manufacturers and exporters of synthetic pyrethroids in the world with products like Deltamethrin, Cypermethrin, Fenvalarate, Bifenthrin, Permethrin etc.
The long association contributed to the growth of Indian Pesticide Industry to become 4th largest producer of Pesticides in the world after US, Japan and China with approximate market size of Rs.73,000 crores,. Presently, India exports about Rs.38,000 crores worth pesticides to global markets, almost 90% of which is mainly by Indian companies. This achievement made possible with lots of efforts by PMFAI and Indian Industries with active support from Government and various research institutions, in which CSIR-IICT played key role.
