Promip triples production with inauguration of biofactory

Promip, the Brazilian manufacturer of biopesticides revealed exclusively to AgroPages that it will inaugurate its second biofactory in the country.

The company claimed this would triple its production capacity to 200 tons/year of bioinputs, to grow 30% per year.

With 17 years of experience, Promip has developed a broad line of products for plant defense resulting from microbiological agents (viruses, bacteria, and fungi) and macrobiological agents (mites, insects, and nematodes).

The investment in increasing production comes when Promip is also introducing a new brand identity to the market.

After selling Promip Serviços (research division for third parties) to French company Staphyt in 2022, the company rejigged its business strategy. It began focusing on developing and producing bioinputs for corn, soy, sugarcane crops, and minor crops, among others.

″The new brand identity sums up Promip's purpose: to seek technology and innovation in nature to disseminate integrated pest management (IPM) in the country,″ emphasized Marcelo Poletti, CEO and Co-founder.

According to the executive, by tripling its production capacity, the company acquires robustness and traction to envision a growth of 30% per year in the coming periods, with projected revenue between R$300 million and R$500 million, until 2028.

According to Poletti, in 2023, Promip will allocate resources to ensure the rapid expansion of its product portfolio from the current 12 commercial brands to at least 20 within two years.

The executive also pointed out that the company was restructured to take inputs to new markets, in addition to the currently predominant states of the South, Southeast, and Midwest.

″The coverage of the national territory will come in a short time through partnerships already in the contract signing stage. This relationship ranges from the distribution channel of agricultural pesticides to other companies that develop biological products or bioinputs,″ Poletti added.

He added that specifically in the area of vegetables and fruits, the short-term goal included implementing the ″MIP Experience″ program on a scale. This initiative unites the company with major companies such as FMC and BASF, as well as retail giants and small and medium-sized producers.

″We are going to multiply and certify the production of residue-free vegetables, anchored in practices and resources that reduce emissions, water consumption, and agrochemicals,″ he said.

Also, according to Poletti, Promip will remain focused on growing double digits in the macrobiological product market, currently corresponding to 30% of revenue.

″There are few companies specializing in the segment. It is an opportunity. We expect to launch state-of-the-art formulations and blends from 2024 onwards. Such solutions will broaden the spectrum of natural pest and disease control on the agricultural frontier,″ he added.
