Brazil to have largest bioinput factory in Latin America

According to information found by AgroPages, the largest bioinput factory in Latin America will be inaugurated by the end of the year in the city of Itápolis, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo.

The unit belongs to Crop Care, a company controlled by Grupo Pátria, which is about to list shares on Nasdaq, the American stock exchange focused on technology companies.

Marcelo Pessanha, CEO of Crop Care, announced that the company is investing BRL100 million to quintuple its production of bioinputs, in addition to expanding research into these products.

Crop Care recently acquired the company, Agrobiológica, which has three factories in the same state of São Paulo.

″We produce the most diverse range of bioinputs, which are products that are used in agriculture with the same purpose as agrochemicals but with the benefit of not causing damage to the environment or people,″ Pessanha said.

″We bought an area of 500,00 square meters to expand our manufacturing capacity five-fold,″ he added, noting that the bioinputs segment has grown by almost 50% per year and should maintain a double-digit expansion over the next five years.

″Eight out of ten farmers already use bioinputs,″ said Pessanha, stressing that the use of these sustainable products in agribusiness will be reflected by a medium-term drop in food prices for consumers.

This growth is also backed by a strong effort to promote the ESG agenda, which summarizes environmental, social, and governance practices in its acronym in English, in the business world, which also involves production in the field, he added.

″In addition to bioinputs, we work with agrochemicals through another company called Perterra. This sector is much more strategic in terms of mitigating the risks of high dependence on Chinese and Indian suppliers,″ he explained.

Pessanha said that the goal is to look for a cheaper purchase while having products in a market that turns around BRL14 billion per year.

Crop Care revealed that it also seeking to invest in innovative startups that operate in agribusiness, as it is a holding company that aims to ″buy disruptive companies.″

″We are looking at other companies in the biologics segment to buy and accelerate our expansion plan. With startups, which have a considerable capacity to develop ideas and innovations, the idea is to form partnerships and not necessarily buy them,″ Pessanha said in conclusion.
