Of the total number of products registered in the year, 79 are destined for organic agriculture, according to first-hand information obtained by AgroPages from the Department of Plant Health and Agricultural Inputs of the Secretariat for Agricultural Defense.
On the last day of 2022, 55 more formulated products were registered, 27 of which were low-impact products.
From the products registered on the last day, rural producers will have alternatives for products of microbiological origin based on new organisms: Isaria Javanica, Trichoderma Reesei, and the baculovirus Spodoptera Littoralis Nucleopolyhedrovirus (SpliNPV). They represent new low-impact alternatives for controlling pests and diseases in plants.
Among the products with low toxicity, those based on plant extracts of Swinglea Glutinosa and Larrea Tridentata stand out, fungicides with the permitted use in melon and tomato crops, among other crops.
There were also deferrals of products formulated based on the new substances, such as Pinoxaden, a herbicide to control black oats and ryegrass in wheat and barley crops.
Natamycin, a fungicide for the treatment of soybean seeds, and Thiafenacil, a herbicide for cotton, coffee, citrus, beans, corn, and soybeans, were also registered.
According to the Deputy General Coordinator for Pesticides and Related Products, Marina Dourado, low-impact products have lower toxicological and environmental risks.
According to her, these pesticides benefit crops with insufficient phytosanitary support (minor crops), as these products are registered by pests and not by crop, as is the case with chemicals.
″These products represent new alternatives for controlling weeds that can significantly impact productivity, with less toxicity to humans and the environment than other alternatives authorized today,″ Dourado highlighted.
She pointed out that the registration of generic pesticides is essential to reduce market concentration and increase competition, which results in fairer trade and lower production costs for Brazilian agriculture.
