ADAMA announced exclusively to AgroPages the launch of its new herbicide Acert (Propaquizafop) in Brazil, developed in partnership with RiceTec, a multinational specialist in the research and commercialization of rice hybrids.

According to the manufacturer, the solution is meant to control invasive red rice (Oryza sativa) and other difficult-to-control grasses, such as barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-pavonis).

Red rice is the weed that causes the most damage to rice crops.

″Productivity losses in crops infested with red rice can easily exceed 30%. High infestation levels can even make production areas unfeasible,″ stated João Ibelli, Product Manager – Herbicides at ADAMA.

The arrival of Acert on the market expands ADAMA's portfolio in rice cultivation, which includes several other herbicide solutions, such as Mayoral (Imazapic; Imazapyr) and Vezir (Imazethapyr).

″Acert is a selective herbicide, with action in the post-emergence of grasses and indicated for crops cultivated with RiceTec hybrids (Max-Ace technology), which are tolerant to the ACCase-inhibiting herbicide,″ Ibelli said.

According to Leandro Pasqualli, the company's Business Development Director, the Max-Ace technology is an additional tool for controlling red rice.

″By sowing Max-Ace, the producer can use the Acert herbicide and control red rice, resistant barnyard grass, and other grasses without harming the crop. We are delighted with the control and tolerance results achieved with the solution,″ Pasqualli added.

According to Ibelli, ″the partnership with RiceTec is global and has also been very positive here in Brazil, bringing great results to farmers.″

″The control has been exceptional for red rice, which has been bothering farmers for many years. This technology will help producers to improve their profitability, combined with sustainability,″ the ADAMA manager said in conclusion.
