One of the novelties seen at the 26th edition of the Expo Agrodinámica fair, held from November 29 to December 2 in Paraguay, was the launch of the insecticide, Pirate (Chlorfenapyr).

According to the manufacturer, it is a single-action insecticide that offers the effective and residual control of caterpillars, mites and thrips, and can be used on different crops, such as soybeans, corn, cotton and vegetables.

In Paraguay, soybean and corn crops are attacked by a large number of pests throughout the cycle, from defoliating caterpillars that appear from the first instars to the final stages, as well as shoots that appear in the reproductive stages, along with flies, mites and thrips that can attack at any time.

Different tools have been developed to combat the damage caused by these pests, such as innovative biotechnologies and insecticides, but all efforts have led to the implementation of comprehensive pest management that combines different tools that are available.

Chlorfenapyr is the only active ingredient from the pyrrole chemical group on the market.

″Due to its new mode of action, Pirate is non-cross-resistant and offers a broad spectrum and long-lasting control,″ said Gabriel Zipeto (Technical Consultant at BASF Insecticides).

According to Zipeto, the product acts ″by contact and ingestion, it is not washed off by rain and irrigation and has translaminar movement, making it a key product for controlling severe pest attacks.″

With this new release, BASF stated that it intends to add a ″new tool to its broad portfolio of Solutions for Agriculture, to continue helping farmers in decision-making and in the daily challenges that agriculture presents.″

During the fair, BASF's stand had the theme, ″Connected by the land,″ and offered information, services, personalized advice and solutions for fighting the problems of pests, diseases and weeds that affect Paraguayan crops.

″Connected by the land is a campaign that puts farmers first in their purpose and makes clear the challenges they face, positively connecting their work with everyday life, as well as the people who play a role in the sector, such as companies, communities close to farmers and the urban public in general,″ BASF said.
