With the search increasing for biological products, theoretical projections indicate that the market for bioinputs will match that of agrochemicals in the 2040s and 2050s, said Argentine specialists Rocío Vigliano, Summabio's Commercial Coordinator, and Jimena Sabor, Summabio's CEO.

According to them, biological product development complements synthetic technology and makes the use of resources more efficient while seeking to reduce the negative impact on the environment.
All of this has led to a worldwide trend towards increased use of this product in recent years, which has become a fundamental tool for low-impact, cost-effective and efficient production.
One of the most recent innovations in this regard is the European Union’s ″Farm to Fork Strategy″, where one of the main objectives presented by the European Commission is to halve chemical pesticide use by 2030.
Mandatory and binding aspects, such as maximum chemical residue limits, will be tightened, and several nitrogenous and phosphorous agrochemicals would be added to the banned lists.
The European Union will provide significant resources for research, development, and technology transfer to facilitate the transition to sustainable production models.
″Based on this reconsideration of the current scenario, we see the need for Latin American producers who also need technical and financial support to make the same process viable,″ the Summabio specialists said.
At the same time, they highlighted that the productive scenario is emerging with the increase in the cost of applying pesticides, with the development of plant and pest resistance to some of the most used chemical formulations, and with the rise in awareness about the occupational risks resulting from handling this type of product.
″Today we believe that we must go through a ‘Responsible Agriculture’, using the various technologies available with coherence, awareness, and prudence, this will achieve what we call ‘Sustainable Agriculture’ in the medium and long term,″ they added.
According to them, the projections show more than promising growth rates, with several specialists guaranteeing that the sector will grow at a sustained pace of around 15% a year.
″There are already big global players making strong bets, so a very encouraging panorama is envisioned,″ they said.
″Although they still represent a marginal share of the input market for agricultural production, their sharp growth dynamics contrast with the stagnation shown by agrochemicals,″ they said in conclusion.
