José Ángel Talavera, Chief Commercial Officer at Seipasa

The recently launched Fungisei (Bacillus subtilis) is ″the solution many farmers have been waiting for in the fight against high-impact diseases,″ said José Ángel Talavera, Chief Commercial Officer at Seipasa.

According to him, the product would revolutionize the biofungicides market due to its ″innovation,″ which ″marked a turning point in its segment.″

Talavera affirmed that Fungisei was innovative due to ″its effectiveness and its exclusive and patented formulation, which combined three differentiating elements: the low-risk phytosanitary nature of the active ingredient, the formulation without biocides and its presentation as a liquid suspension.″

″Fungisei is a microbiological fungicide developed from a highly effective and pure strain of Bacillus subtilis, whose formulation is patented by Seipasa,″ he pointed out.

According to Seipasa's Chief Commercial Officer, the key to the product's mode of action lay in its exclusive formulation in liquid format, which was free of chemical preservatives, which "protected the microbial stability of the active ingredient, guaranteed its conservation capacity and provided the maximum effectiveness in the field against the target diseases.″

″Fungisei represented another step forward in our research and innovation process based on microorganisms applied to agriculture. In recent years we have acquired a deep knowledge and experience in the uses and applications of Bacillus subtilis, which now reflects in Fungisei,″ he added.

The executive explained that a whole new generation of professionals demanded innovative solutions to transform agriculture, combat the most harmful diseases, and did so in an aligned and respectful way with the planet's environmental needs.

″Our obligation as a company was to put new alternatives and solutions in their hands, and Fungisei fulfilled our purpose in this regard. Agriculture was an ongoing challenge, and the process of change we are going through would accelerate even more soon. The rules of eight to ten years ago no longer worked because of the climate emergency, the regulatory framework requirements, and the European Green Deal measures, forcing us to change course and do things differently,″ he argued.

According to Talavera, Fungisei was a solution that was fully aligned with the new international regulatory framework and with consumers' need to consume healthy food free of chemical residues: "Fungisei was classified as low risk by the European Commission, which certified its low impact on all aspects of its use and application. It is worth remembering that, to date, only 10% of the active substances approved in the European Union fell under this classification, and Fungisei is one of them,″

The phytosanitary registration of the product in Portugal included a wide variety of crops such as vegetables, fruit trees, grapes, or dried fruits, among others, for the control of high-impact diseases such as botrytis, downy mildew, or powdery mildew.

In addition to Portugal, the product had phytosanitary registration in the United States, Mexico, Peru, Morocco, Ivory Coast, France, and Turkey.

″The phytosanitary register in Portugal is very recent and, at the moment, we are in the launch phase. The introduction of the product in the Portuguese market will continue during the coming months. We want to take Fungisei to every corner and farm in the country to put in their hands a differential solution in the fight against the diseases that every year harm their crops,″ he said in conclusion.
