Syngenta presents new insecticide Acelepryn for lawn care in Spain

Syngenta will present a new insecticide Acelepryn at AEDG Congress which will be held in Marbella. Acelepryn has already been registered in Spain for the control of larvae of Tipula (Tipula oleracea and Tipula paludosa) and white worms (Melolontha melolontha, Phyllopertha horticola, Amphimallon solstitiale and Hoplia philanthus).

Acelepryn is an insecticide specifically developed for lawn care and it is important to note that it is currently the only authorized product against these pests, which is why Syngenta once again demonstrates to green keepers and green area professionals that its commitment to R& D for this highly specialized sector is clear and unique in the world.

Acelepryn is an insecticide for lawns based on a new active ingredient chlorantraniliprole and that has been registered in Spain for use on sports fields, golf courses, racing fields, bowling alleys, airfields, professional applications on commercial lawns and residential, as well as other turf use and maintenance situations, but not including turf production.

The larvae of Tipula and white worms cause significant damage to the lawn, since being underground they harm the roots, which appear thin or eaten, also producing holes in the ground, causing instability of the playing field on soccer fields, golf, racecourses etc. Another common problem is seeing grass kicked up by birds, badgers, or other animals looking for worms under the grass.

Acelepryn presents a new mode of action against these pests, blocking their muscular activity until it is paralyzed, and is also much more effective at low doses of product and with a prolonged residual action. In addition, Acelepryn presents a reduced leaching and a high stability in the soil.

The time of application must be before the oviposition of the insects, since the product needs time to move through the "thatch" of the lawn where the insects are. The product is more effective in the first and second instars (stages) of the larvae.
