FMC revealed exclusively to AgroPages the launch of Verimark insecticide to control Diatraea saccharalis, Mahanarva fimbriolata, and Sphenophorus levis.
Based on the formulation of the diamide insecticide - cyantraniliprole, the product also preserves the other beneficial insects in the sugarcane field.
As it has no impact on the natural enemies of these pests, Verimark is different from insecticides such as ethiprole, thiamethoxam, dinotefuran, and pyriproxyfen.
Brazil leads the world in producing sugarcane and its products and by-products, being the world's largest exporter of sugar.
Sugarcane occupies about nine million hectares, with a presence in the country’s northeast, southeast, and central-west regions. It has a production volume of 572.87 million tons, projected for the 2022-2023 harvest by the CONAB (National Supply Company).
″And today, Mahanarva fimbriolata is one of the pests that have impacted sugarcane quality and profitability for the producer. Now, FMC offers an innovative solution for this control through Verimark, which brings a diamide insecticide in its formulation, making it a particular product, with residual action in the protection,″ commented Christian Menegatti, sugarcane culture manager at FMC.

FMC's new solution has an entirely different mode of action from the insecticides available on the market.
″Verimark efficiently controls the three important pests of the sugarcane crop thanks to its innovative mode of action. It preserves the natural enemies present in the crop while maintaining the balance of the insect's fauna,″ explained Maurício Oliveira, Regional Marketing Manager for Cana & Especialidades.

While managing the crop, the farmer first identifies the presence and then conducts a population survey of the leafhopper in the area. He is then recommended the application of Verimark at the beginning of the infestation, which usually happens at the beginning of the rainy season.
According to FMC, the new tool is an essential alternative for managing the resistance of Mahanarva fimbriolata to current technologies available on the market.
