Yamato Top herbicide based on pyroxasulfone launched in Argentina

Summit Agro announced in Argentina the launch of the new herbicide Yamato Top, which has pyroxasulfone as an active ingredient.

It is a new pre-emergent selective herbicide for the control of grasses and Amaranthus spp., acting during the germination of the weeds, inhibiting the elongation of the aerial part of the germinated seeds.

The growing appearance of annual ryegrass (Lolium spp.) populations with resistance to several herbicides used during fallow and/or crops have generated severe problems in Argentine production systems.

Field tests of the pyroxasulfone herbicide to control annual ryegrass before wheat planting showed high control effectiveness. In addition, there were no phytotoxicity symptoms recorded in the culture where it was applied.

The Yamato Top herbicide has a new pyroxasulfone formulation as a concentrated suspension (SC 48).

Its formulation allows the possibility of using lower doses than other herbicides of the same group and herbicides in general.

According to the manufacturer, this would result in benefits in terms of environmental impact and in simplifying logistics, reducing plastic waste, and making it easier to handle.

In terms of toxicity, Yamato Top is classified as a ″green toxicological range″, for ″products that do not normally pose a hazard″.

As for recommendation its use, pyroxasulfone is registered in a wide range of crops such as wheat, barley, soybeans, and corn due to its selectivity.

Adrián Martínez Van Den Dooren, Marketing Manager at Summit Agro, stated that ″the new version of Yamato positions us as pioneers in the pyroxasulfone market with an exclusive liquid formulation, safer for the user and the environment, in line with our Program Be Green, which involves carrying out all of our internal and external activities within a sustainable context.″

″The new suspension concentrate (SC) formulation features an excellent green band toxicological profile and allows for greater compatibility in tank mixes and stability,″ he added.

In addition, he highlighted, ″we proposed to develop the formula locally to guarantee the Argentine producer greater availability of the product, have the asset promptly and bet on national production and generate more investment, development and local workforce″.

″For this reason, Yamato Top is a very safe product due to its low risk of carrying over in the soil, as may not occur with other herbicides, limiting the planting of some crops″, the manufacturer said in conclusion.
