FMC, Kumiai expand collaboration on pyroxasulfone

Kumiai Chemical plans to apply for approval of its herbicide, pyroxasulfone, in the US and Australia this year, with Europe and Brazil to follow, reports Japan Chemical Week. The herbicide is being developed for use on crops such as maize, soybeans and wheat. Pyroxasulfone is a pyrazole-based herbicide that can be utilised at lower use rates than acetanilide products. The active ingredient has broad-spectrum weed control when applied pre- or post-emergence. A US launch for use on maize is expected around 2010, it adds. Kumiai would not comment on commercialisation plans.
