AgBiomeⓇ, Inc., a leader in global microbial innovation, announced its collaboration with W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) to discover and improve methods for growing commercially important microbes. This collaboration will bring together experts from diverse disciplines to examine new options for the sustainable production of microbial products.
"Innovation often happens at the intersection of different disciplines," said Dr. Tracy Raines, Chief Innovation Officer at AgBiome. "We are very excited to launch this endeavor with Gore. Their expertise in materials science and engineering is an excellent complement to our deep knowledge of microbiology and biosynthesis."
As the new biology revolution continues to accelerate, numerous industries are turning to microbial sources for new active ingredients and materials. As a result, the demand for scalable production of microbial products will only continue to grow.
"Current technology for growing microbes at large scale is rather limited in many ways," adds Linda Elkins, Innovation Leader at Gore’s Innovation Center. "Within Gore’s innovation center of expertise, we are committed to developing and seeking new and impactful applications of Gore technology. This interdisciplinary project is a great opportunity to challenge assumptions and really interrogate the boundary between biology and manufacturing."
Gore, headquartered in Newark, Delaware, is a global materials science company dedicated to transforming industries and improving lives. Since 1958, Gore has solved complex technical challenges in demanding environments — from outer space to the world’s highest peaks to the inner workings of the human body.
