Soybean, corn, barley and cotton producers have a new opportunity to achieve better results in the production of their crops. Bayer launched in Argentina the most concentrated glyphosate herbicide on the market, Roundup Top, which is achieving very good performance among those who have already accessed this new product.
Roundup Top has a new formula with 575 g/L glyphosate that is much more concentrated than the previous one (540 g/L). This allows new benefits not only for the producer, but also for achieving greater sustainability.
″In the case of the launch of Roundup Top, we have several edges from where we take the issue of sustainability, which is one of the pillars of Bayer. The first is that being the most concentrated liquid product on the market reduces the amount of plastic we generate for drums. The second is that by changing the color of the container for a white one, the segregation of the containers is improved once used for what is a clean field and represents a very good efficiency in the entire process from the point of view of sustainability″, Alejandro Sebastián Gómez, Bayer's Southern Cone herbicides portfolio manager, details while clarifying that they are also continuing with the use of large 1,000-liter returnable containers where the saving of plastic is really significant.
This herbicide is specifically for the pre-emergent and post-emergent control of annual and perennial weeds, both grasses and broadleaf, it is absorbed by leaves and green tissues, taking it to the roots, ensuring its effectiveness. Gómez explains that important trials have been carried out "to prove the efficacy of the product, we have done them with fallow land, within what are the main weeds and we have seen differences in performance, with much better results." He also details that synergy can be done with the rest of the Bayer portfolio.
Gómez highlights: ″We are very happy with this launch since it comes at a key moment for Bayer Southern Cone, it marks 40 years of Roundup in Argentina and this product from the liquid line arrives after 19 years with Roundup full 2, it is a very interesting replacement because it is very powerful and has very good performance″.
Another key to the product is that, having been successfully tested, Bayer decided to give a guarantee on Roundup Top. Gómez explains that "the producer will find the guarantee and even a refund in the terms and conditions in the event that the product does not meet the agreed conditions. That benefit is unique to the Roundup line.″
Finally, the Bayer manager detailed what is coming for the firm for the remainder of 2022 in the Southern Cone. In the context of the current instability in the country, Bayer is in a good market position since the Roundup is produced by them in Argentina, therefore the bet is to continue growing "with enormous challenges, very confident in the objectives that we have to continue increasing our production capacity to give the greatest capacity to our plant″, he concludes.
