Yalfín.jpgUruguayan company Yalfín and the multinational Syngenta launched two new NK maize hybrids in Uruguay, which are NK 870 and NK 842, both under the Viptera3 version, a biotechnology for controlling major species of caterpillars that also presents as a differential tolerance to glyphosate.

Yalfín's technician, Gabriel Castiglioni, said that the biotechnological seeds ″were already being tested in this harvest in Uruguay. We did many tests at the experimental level, as well as field tests, in addition to the data we have from Argentina. The two new hybrids are NK 870 and NK 842, both under the Viptera3 version.″

″Both have mid to short cycles, something we were looking for to broaden the portfolio,″ he said, noting that NK 870 Vip 3 "is a hybrid with a very high potential and very good plant health, positioned to lead in terms of first seedings and environments with high yield potential.″

NK 842 Vip 3 ″is a little shorter″ than the NK 870 Vip 3, he added, stating, ″It is a hybrid offering excellent plant health and stability, and with good potential. Due to its characteristics, it will be positioned both in early and late sowings and second. It has a very wide planting date.″

″It has a very good health profile and very good yield potential and is stable, with a density management that can range from low to high populations. It is a prolific corn, so if density and environment enables it, there could be a second ear that will contribute to the yield. This will enable you to play with densities and in some cases be conservative. If the season and environment are better, that second ear helps to enhance performance. It can also be planted in slightly less suitable environments with lower populations in second or late plantings,″ he further added.

″The two hybrids have very good health profiles, something that becomes much more important in Uruguay in late and second-season sowings,″ Castiglioni said in conclusion.
