Staphyt enters Brazilian R&D market

Staphyt, the French Global company in the research and registration segment of agricultural products, announced the acquisition of the services division of the Brazilian biopesticides company Promip.

With this deal, Staphyt enters the local market of agronomic research & development (R&D) services for third parties.

Promip said it will focus on the business of producing and distributing biological agricultural pesticides, inputs required in the so-called integrated pest management in agriculture (IPM). The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

According to the companies, the acquisition transfers to Staphyt the control of the Center for Innovations, Research & Development of Promip Serviços, located in the city of Conchal, in São Paulo. The area comprises 100 hectares occupied by experimental crops, different agricultural crops, greenhouses and laboratories. The approximately 60 employees of the unit – researchers, agronomists and technicians – will be incorporated into Staphyt's professional staff.

Staphyt's Business Director for Brazil and Latin America, Luiz Antonio José, emphasized that the R&D market for third parties is in the company's DNA. ″Staphyt is the largest and most successful field and laboratory testing company in Europe, with more than 7,000 studies delivered annually in the areas of plant protection, nutrition and improvement,″ he revealed. ″The acquisition of Promip Serviços will allow us to extend this experience to the main agricultural states in Brazil.″

Founder and CEO of Promip, agronomist Marcelo Poletti pointed out that the transaction ended the company's spin-off process, planned about two years ago to expand the Brazilian brand's share in the market for agricultural pesticides activated by microbiological agents (viruses, bacteria and fungi) and macrobiological (mites, insects and nematodes). ″The immediate expectation is to expand the biomanufacturing capacity of Promip's portfolio, in addition to allocating investments to the diversification of technologies.″

Founded in France in 1989, Staphyt is a R&D and Regulatory Affairs consulting organization. It provides services in the agribusiness and agricultural inputs, biocides, chemicals and pharmaceuticals sectors. It operates in 18 countries in Europe, Latin America, Asia-Oceania, North Africa and other regions with more than 100 experts in the scientific and regulatory fields.

Staphyt provides support in the stages of development, registration and commercialization of chemical and biological products and substances, as well as field-level tests, seed services, physical-chemical and ecotoxicological studies and environmental degradation. The company operates in more than 70 test stations and 200 agronomists.
